What is the Pelvic Floor? What is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that have a multitude of purposes. These muscles are within the hips. A pelvic floor physical therapist is a physical therapist who specializes in the treatment of these muscles. Phyiscal therapist are movement specialist who are skilled in the treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction.

How soon can I be seen postpartum?

​

Patients can be seen 6 weeks postpartum following there OBGYN follow up with regard to treating and assessing the pelvic floor muscles. If there are other orthopedic concerns outside of the pelvic floor muscles, prior to the 6 week follow up, a physical therapy evaluation may be considered.

What does my first visit entail?

​

You and your therapist will begin your evaluation or initial visit with discussing your symptoms, what brings you in and from there your physical therapist will start gathering additional information by performing an assessment of strength, range of motion, coordination, baseline function, and any additional test & measures. Usually the Evaluation is an hour session. We ask patient to fill out as much of the intake paper work online prior to the visit to save time.
